More Ruins on the way to Kusadasi

6th June 2011
We left the Hotel at 8am for another day of travel South down the Aegean Coast heading for our next destination, Kusadasi.
Our first stop was at Assos, only a few kilometers from the hotel, where the ancient settlement of Assos overlooks the coast, essentially above our hotel.  The view out to sea to the Greek Island of Lesbos made the walk up the hill worthwhile.

On the way to our next destination, we were taken to a carpet outlet and given the usual lesson on the process of making carpets and why Turkish carpets are better than everyone elses. After the quite informative talk, the salesmen were ready for action and working the crowd. The Macdonald’s finally made a purchase and Mark and Sue had two carpets under serious consideration.

We had a late lunch after the carpet visit and after another reasonable drive arrived at another ruin, the Begama Acropolis Archaeological Site (Pergamon). It was a huge site located very high on a hill overlooking fertile plains. Whilst the ground level of the ruins are only partially intact, the underground level of corridors and storage chambers was still in very good condition.
After leaving this site, we headed for Kusadasi, our next stop where we will be staying 3 nights. We arrived at the Hotel Kismet at around 7.15 pm. We were pleased to see that it located right on the Aegean Coast overlooking a large marina. We quickly settled in having a drink at the Terrace Bar overlooking the marina and the town.
